Objectives and Mission of AGES

The mission of the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) stems from the demands of Austrian Health and Nutrition Law and the European Food Safety Policy.

These include:

  • The protection of health of all people, animals and plants
  • The preservation of food safety and quality
  • The protection of consumer interests and implementation of safety measures
  • To provide objective and unambiguous information to the public

To guarantee competent and efficient nutrition and agricultural services through:

  • The creation of universal standards for the completion of official, federal, and adopted projects
  • A consistent accreditation process for all testing and monitoring locations

Ensuring the safety and effectiveness of medications and medical equipment through the implementation of:

  • Medication laws, medication import laws, blood transfusion safety laws, and medical equipment laws

In addition, AGES pursues projects which result from the needs of the private industry service sector:

  • The development of new markets and clients to strengthen the range of the private industry service sector of AGES
  • The adoption of new projects through partnerships with other organizations that lie within the realm of health and food safety
